I can understand your frustration, but your solution really isn't a
solution, is it? Just a criticism, right? NASA isn't going to change
their plan for you or I, so what solution do you have for the vibration
problem that they anticipate will occur with this vehicle? That's the
question.

If you don't have a problem to solve, there isn't a problem, is there?
Why spend billions developing Ares I to do what you could do with an EELV
Heavy launch? Why tie NASA to its own home grown launch architecture for
decades when the private sector has several start-ups which show some
promise of lowering launch costs in far less time than that?

I never wanted NASA to start developing *any* shuttle derived launch
system. They'll spend several billions of dollars developing a system
that's expensive to maintain and lock themselves out of the possibility
of using something cheaper in the future.

I don't disagree with you. That said, the question remains.

The question has no answer. NASA doesn't have a solution. Ares I and Orion
are both overweight.

As the old saying goes, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

NASA's approach of defining the lunar architecture first, then trying to
make shuttle derived hardware fit is simply awful. All of this seems to be
an attempt to protect a lot of shuttle jobs rather than attempting to define
an architecture based on launch vehicles that actually exist.
