Default Stars red and blue light

At first I was sure that this was an airplane heading toward me or even
directly away from me because it was not moving left or right. After 2
hours the light was still in the same place respective of the background
stars.

What causes some stars to have red and blue twinkles, and others not?

Depends on:

1. How much atmosphere you are looking through to see the particular
star (i.e its' altitude).

2. How much air turbulence happens to be in the path the starlight is
traversing.
