Main planets, Belt planets, Moon planets etc
== Main planets, Belt planets, Moon planets etc ==
I think wikipedia should use adjectives to distinguish different types of planets: '''Planet''' (massive enough to be round, not so massive as to have fusion) '''Main planet''' (orbiting roughly in ecliptic plane, not part of a belt): *Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune '''Belt planet''' (orbiting within a belt): *Ceres, Pluto-Charon etc '''Scattered planet''' (scattered): *Eris etc '''Moon planet''' (orbiting another planet): *The Moon, Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan, Dione, Ariel, Umbriel, Triton etc '''Floating planet''' (orbiting the galaxy itself rather than another object). This is a lot simpler than IAU's recent technical definition. The word planet on its own would usually refer to a Main planet but this would depend on the context. Moon planets would still be referred to as moons most of the time. |
