WARNING: Geomagnetic K-Index of 6 expected -- Valid From: 2012 Mar09 0330 UTC
Space Weather Message Code: WARK06
Serial Number: 187 Issue Time: 2012 Mar 09 0319 UTC WARNING: Geomagnetic K-Index of 6 expected Valid From: 2012 Mar 09 0330 UTC Valid To: 2012 Mar 09 0900 UTC Warning Condition: Onset NOAA Scale: G2 - Moderate NOAA Space Weather Scale descriptions can be found at www.swpc.noaa.gov/NOAAscales Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 55 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude. Induced Currents - Power grid fluctuations can occur. High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms. Spacecraft - Satellite orientation irregularities may occur; increased drag on low Earth-orbit satellites is possible. Radio - HF (high frequency) radio propagation can fade at higher latitudes. Aurora - Aurora may be seen as low as New York to Wisconsin to Washinton state. |

An astronomer would take a different view of these events, while earthquakes have tragic consequences and often destroy human settlements, they also indicate the forces at work, not just locally but in the overall context of evolutionary geology of a global and astronomical scale. What is experienced locally is actually a signature of the rotating dynamics of the interior with observational evidence drawn from looking at exposed rotating viscous compositions. These 'solar storms' provide the equivalent of a dusting of iron filings on a global scale and using planetary comparisons with Venus which has residual rotation, another clue to the rotation of the Earth's differential rotation emerges - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/03...er_explosions/ The original empiricists would have been on to this straight away had they the information however when I see the science journals and the way investigators have to continuously quote and reference other works, the overall global and astronomical view is either lost or never gets going. If I have the freedom to explore in isolation, the drawback is an unstructured development of an idea and this can be frustrating as it means having to keep an approach front and center whereas once should be enough. |
