Default Versions of the Vision

As noted on NASA Watch ("Bud Cramer Doesn't Waste Any Time"):

***
Huntsville Times

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Friday picked Johns Hopkins University
physicist Michael D. Griffin to head the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration.

By Friday afternoon, U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, was bending
the new administrator's ear on behalf of Huntsville's Marshall Space
Flight Center.

"I welcomed him to the position and quickly reminded him that we've
got some tough issues that we need to settle with regard to Marshall
and with regard to programs that will fulfill the president's vision
to return to the moon and on to Mars," Cramer said.

Published reports say from 148 to 800 employees might be cut from the
2,700-employee Marshall work force over the next couple of years.
Cramer said he wants Griffin to work closely with Congress in drafting
a plan for NASA's future...

***

Given DC protocol, who wants to bet Griffin hadn't already taken calls
from Sen. Hutchinson (R-JSC) and Sen. Nelson (D-KSFC) about their
hopes for space?

Alas, poor Lyndon... he woulda loved every log-rolling, pork-barreling
minute of the show.

Just like last time (1969), the road to the moon is paved with pork.
