Default Earth analogs of the Mars "spiders"?

Just saw this on MarkCarey.com/mars/ :

Click on the "View in Google Earth" and "View in Google Maps" links to
see aerial photos of Sahara desert analogs of the "spiders" seen on
Mars.
Anyone have any idea what is the origin of the Sahara features?

Bob Clark:
Star dunes are formed when strong winds
blow from several different directions.
I.e., no prevailing wind direction is experienced in the area,
but there are some recurrent wind directions.

Now, in your subject line:
David Jones remade himself into Ziggy Stardust,
possibly inspired to do so by Martian spiders, so check out
the earlier part of the body of work of David Bowie.
