Default introduction in astronomy in Arab

Hi there,

this might sound as a rather strange request, but does anyone know of
a good introduction in astronomy in arab. I'm looking for a book on
general astronomy with nice pics and explanations of planets galaxies
etc..., not so much on practical observing

thanks,

Aglooka

Not strange so much as hard to answer. I likely would not recognize one
if it was in front of my now .. unless it was illustrated ;-)

Seriously, have you tried a search with Google on 'arabic astronomy' or
'arabic language astronomy book' or some such?

Such a book surely *should* exist. Half the *stars* have Arabic names -
Algol, Mizar, Deneb... .

One very active group in the Arabic world is the Jordanian Astronomical
Society. They might have a suggestion although they might not know the
books' availability where you live (assuming it's not in an Arab country).
Web site: http://www.jas.org.jo/

There's also the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences at
http://www.jas.org.jo/union.html but that's more for conferences.

That doesn't work, as I suspected.

But if one had a computer fitted to use the Arabic language on the
keyboard, and found an Arabic-language search engine, *then* one's
search results would, one hopes, find references more recent than the
Almagest.

Also, the local public library has a little section with a few books
from each of several foreign languages spoken by people in the area.

Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for, but this *might* work:

I've had -- and enjoyed -- that book for some years. One wonders,
however, what someone who appears not to know the name of the Arabic
language will do with a book written in Arabic.

Perhaps he merely doesn't know the name of the Arabic language *in
English*. How does one say "Arabic" in Arabic?
