Something is missing here. What's funny about the pictures?

Fascinating! They are made to fit some kind of optical system with
set screws, like a parascope or Tank viewing system. But 7mm???
They must have been some kind of adaptive optics or some kind of
primarly low power optics. I'd love to see the rest of the thing!
