Default Lava Tube Teleoperated Explorer (LATTE)

Assume we send a teleoperated rover to a likely site for a lunar lava
tube (ex; my favorite, Aristarchus Crater) and discover that, yes,
there is a segment of intact lava tube. If LATTE enters the intact
segment, it may lose any line-of-sight communication link to its
lander or orbiting component or to Earth.

What's the best/safest method to ensure a reliable connection?
Unwinding a fiber optic cable? Could snag. Drop a series of small
radio repeaters?
