NASA Presents Space Station Briefings
Dolores Beasley/Melissa Motichek Headquarters, Washington September 24, 2003 (Phone: 202/358-1753/1272) Rob Navias Johnson Space Center, Houston (Phone: 281/483-5111) NOTE TO EDITORS: 03-096 NASA PRESENTS SPACE STATION BRIEFINGS The next mission to the International Space Station, the return of the current residents, and science findings from a previous mission is the focus of a series of NASA briefings. The briefings begin at 1 p.m. EDT Monday, September 29 at NASA Headquarters, Washington and continue at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston. Reporters at participating NASA centers will be able to ask questions during the news briefings, which will be broadcast live on NASA Television. NASA Television is available on AMC-9, transponder 9C, C- Band, located at 85 degrees west longitude. The frequency is 3880.0 MHz. Polarization is vertical, and audio is monaural at 6.80 MHz. At 1 p.m. EDT Monday, scientists who conducted experiments during Expedition 6, which ended in April, will share what was learned and how that knowledge will be applied on future Expeditions. The participants from NASA Headquarters a -- Dr. Peter Cavanagh, Principal Investigator, FOOT/Ground Reaction Forces During Spaceflight experiment, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio -- Dr. Alice Gast, Principal Investigator, InSPACE (Investigating the Structure of Paramagnetic Aggregrates from Colloidal Emulsions), Massachusetts Institute of Technology -- Don Pettit, Expedition 6 Space Station Science Officer -- Roger Crouch, Station Senior Scientist At 2 p.m. EDT, the following NASA officials at JSC will discuss the ongoing and upcoming Station missions. -- William Gerstenmaier, International Space Station Program Manager -- Joel Montalbano, Expedition 8 Lead Flight Director -- Peter Hasbrook, Expedition 8 Increment Manager -- Dr. Merri Sanchez, Expedition 7 Increment Manager -- Dr. Donald Thomas, Space Station Program Scientist -- Dr. Janice Voss, Expedition 8 Increment Scientist -- Dr. Thomas Marshburn, Expedition 7 Lead Flight Surgeon Expedition 8 Commander and NASA International Space Station Science Officer Michael Foale, Flight Engineer and Soyuz Commander Alexander Kaleri of the Russian Aviation and Space Agency (Rosaviakosmos) and Spain's Pedro Duque of the European Space Agency are scheduled to be launched October 18 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on a Soyuz TMA-3 vehicle. They're scheduled to dock to the Space Station on October 20. Foale and Kaleri will replace Expedition 7 Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA Station Science Officer Ed Lu, who have been in orbit since late April. Why are things like this never seen on regular broadcast television?
How will children coming up ever see the awe of space travel in images, as I and most of us did? Who will care to work on these projects in the future? |
