OT - Backdoor/sub seven trojan horse
Hi All,
I've had one of these bugs in my computer for a long time, and it resists any of my attempts to get rid of it. Norton seems to have it contained, as it blocks all attempts for this thing to make outside contact. I've written to Symantic several times but they don't respond. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this thing...is there software available that will clean it up? Al |

While we are on the subject, my XT home computer has a nasty tick that bites
with the logo trickler_4010. Norton stops internet access but this bugger keeps ringing. does anyone know how to temove this creep. I tried to delete or rename the beast but neither strategy worked. Any help would be appreciated. Bill Bambrick 41 N, 73 W, 95 ASL |

Any help would be appreciated. You've got Gator installed, which is spyware. The trickler_4010.exe program is a component of Gator that monitors your internet habits and then calls home to report. I'm not entirely certain, but I'd think that one of the spyware-killer programs, such as Ad-Aware, could remove this. trane -- //------------------------------------------------------------ // Trane Francks Tokyo, Japan // Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. // http://mp3.com/trane_francks/ |

Al If you are dead sure what the trojan's name is, look at Symantec's site for a removal program and it will delete entries from your registry and the trojan's files, etc. I would also suggest you make a back-up of all your very important data files first! Do a google search on trickler 4010. Lots of info there. Also, check out
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, it probably would find it and let you do something about it. Clear, Dark, Steady Skies! (And considerate neighbors!!!) |

While we are on the subject of this sort of stuff, I also downloaded PortPeeker
from wilders.org. I had been getting statistics on some activity on ports 137, 138, and 139 on my Kerio firewall. I start u p PortPeeker BEFORE I connect to the internet, and configure it to peek on UDP port 137, then bring up the internet. Now the traffic on all 3 ports has stopped, and my SPAM mail has trickled off to practically nothing. I use Wal-Mart Connect ($9.94 a month) and suspect that it had been opening these ports, but am not certain. I just know that I went from 7-10 SPAM messages a day to less than one. I also use Ad-Aware, SpywareGuard, Spybot Search and Destroy, and a few others, and they are pretty good at finding and stopping spyware. I also use the $19.95 SpyBlocker, which stops a lot of ads, scripts, bugs, and other stuff. One warning - SpyBlocker uses a Hosts file, and if you also use Ad-Aware or SpyBot S&D, do NOT have it isolate the Hosts file, or your SpyBlocker will not work. I had to search all over the place to find the right Hosts file to take the read-only attribute off of. Clear, Dark, Steady Skies! (And considerate neighbors!!!) |
