There are some sound clips at the Earth & Sky website:

http://earthsky.com/Features/Skywatching/pronounce.html

Also check out the two Astronomical League pronunciation guides:

http://www.astroleague.org/al/astrnote/astnot07.html (stars and
constellations)
http://www.astroleague.org/al/astrnote/astnot14.html (solar system objects
and features)

Plee-ah-deez ...just like it says in the dictionary, or Google for that
matter. :-)

Thanks for that Bill. Although it's one thing reading a pronunciation key,
it's another thing hearing it in 'real life'! ;-)

The Japanese pronounce it "Suburu"!

I wish there was a site somewhere where I could hear how to pronounce

these
names correctly! - It was only last week I discovered that 'achromatic'

was
pronounced with a short 'a' sound.

Anyway, any guidelines how to pronounce 'Pleiades'? - Is it "Plea - aids",
"Plea-a-des" or something else?

Thanks,
John.
