Default Would it be worth upgrading to Televue Plossl?

I beleive that the 25mm plossl which was supplied with my telescope is
made by Synta.

Telescope is a 8" f6 Newtonian reflector.

I would wish to ask for your opinions as regards upgrading this
eyepiece to one made by Televue. I wonder would there be much
noticeable difference between the Synta and the Televue to merit the
expense?

Thanks for any advice.

I would say not. However, you should join a club (if you haven't), and try
the more expensive eyepieces out for yourself, and in your scope. I have
some TV plossls and I like them a lot. I also like my GTO (Chinese) 6mm
plossl which cost me $19. TV makes great eyepieces, but I think that a lot
of beginners think that better eyepieces make more of a difference than they
do, and there are other ways to spend money that may add more to your
observing enjoyment (charts, finder, chair, thermos, long underwear, down
coat, nebula filters, binos, another scope, etc.) That said, my next
eyepiece purchase may be a Nagler 3-6 zoom!

Hi Lazzer,

The amount of difference in eyepieces depends on a number of variables,
including seeing conditions, telescope quality, eyesight and observing
experience. I would go to
http://skyandtelescope.com/resources/organizations/ and find a local astro
club. Then take your scope to one of their public nights. You can set up in
the middle of other observers and directly compare your eyepieces to a
number of other brands (including TV) and see how much difference you notice
in your scope. You are also likely to find some used eyepieces at very good
prices.
