Earth is entering a stream of debris from an unknown comet
Space Weather News for June 4, 2015
http://spaceweather.com Earth is entering a stream of debris from an unknown comet, and this is causing one of the most intense meteor showers of the year. Ironically, most sky watchers won't notice because the shower peaks in broad daylight. We only know it's happening because a radar in Canada is picking up echoes from meteoroids streaking through the blue sky overhead. Astronomers call these meteors "Arietids" because they emerge from the constellation Aries not far from the June sun. For observing tips on how you might be able to see earthgrazing Arietids just before sunrise in the mornings ahead, visit http://spaceweather.com |

To appreciate the motion of the Earth and those of the inner planets it is crucial to set aside the older astrological descriptions of the 'June Sun' and the apparent passage of the Sun through the constellations and adopt the more productive line-of-sight observation where the stars appear to move behind the central Sun in sequence - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdFrE7hWj0A All that is happening is the Earth is moving through space therefore the only valid use of the apparent motion of the stars is the one using the orbital motion of the Earth and not daily circumpolar motion and its celestial sphere connotations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeQwYrfmvoQ The debris stream is meant to give the observer the impression of the Earth as a vehicle moving through space like a car passing through a local rain shower but the celestial sphere descriptions block this productive view. |
