The USS Kelvin (NCC-0514) looks like it's going to be pretty cool.

Not NCC-273.15?

I'm trying to figure out where the warp nacelles are at on it.
The thing on top looks like it has the main deflector on its front end,
so does it have just one warp nacelle on the bottom?

Then it's a real throwback to the "destroyer" type vessel shown in TOS
tech manual, and sort of conflicts with all the other series and movies
which seemed to imply that you needed twin warp nacelles.
If you look closely at this picture, you can see that it's getting
walloped with what appear to be a mass of small missiles:
http://www.firstshowing.net/img2/sta...ahoo-photo.jpg
And in this one, that it has three fold-out phaser emitters ahead of the
bridge: http://img.trekmovie.com/images/st09/usskelvin1.jpg
I assume that there are three more on the opposite side of the hull
centerline... in fact, in the first photo it looks like they may be
spaced out in a ring around the whole top hull.

I always thought the interior of the NX-01 Enterprise off of "ST
Enterprise" looked about the most like you expect a real starship to
look like - cramped and full of equipment, like a nuclear submarine.
The Vulcan ships from that series were also very interesting with their
ring-type warp field generators (or are they Bussard collectors?):

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Suurok_class
....which somewhat resemble the other "first Enterprise" concept:

The fold-up ring on the D'Kyr class for atmospheric flight was a
particularly neat idea.

On or about Tue, 21 Oct 2008 10:35:36 -0400, Jeff Findley made the sensational claim that:
Actually, I know a lot of Star Trek fans which will see this. Going back to
just before TOS should be very interesting.

I don't get why they're not calling it a reboot or reimagining, since that's
clearly what it is. What I'm nervous about is that it really *isn't*, and
we're expected to swallow Kirk being in command of the Enterprise *as a cadet*,
and the entire crew serving together during kindergarten.

What the hell was wrong with the TOS look that they needed to pull this Apple
store crap? It was good enough for "Relics" and it was good enough for
"Trials and Tribble-ations". Hmph.

because it's a comic book.

It won a freaking Hugo! Every sci-fi fan ought to at least pick it up and
give it a chance. With the addition of Dr. Manhattan, and the associated
technology which created him, this work is squarely in the sci-fi genre.

But it's also one heck of a super hero graphic novel. The super hero
characters all have their own views on what a super hero ought to be and
this feeds heavily into the plot lines.

I borrowed the book from a friend at work, because I'm too cheap to pay full
price for such a book. It's not the type of book which will quickly find
its way into the used bookstores which I like to frequent.

Better than the first stage directions in Red Dwarf:

"SCENE: Corridor. Could be the corridor in a TV station."

I never appreciated that fact till I saw the series in reruns at
around age 25...Uhura was "built like a brick ****house" as they say
here in the US.
And that miniskirt of hers was more like a wide belt. :-D

I've thought about this...and I think there is a explanation that fits
the ST universe.... Uhura got Silica-Lifeform-Based-Implants at some
point between this movie and TOS.
Although she's still likely to punch out anyone who implies she's a
"Hot Little Horta" of some sort. :-)

Maybe she went somewhere on leave, like a Space Boobs parlor?

The problem, of course, is if you overfeed them, you soon start sprouting
extra boobs.

On the other hand, shouldn't M'Ress have needed several bras?

...and aren't we happy about that too!

It was only recently when rewatching "The Enterprise Incident", during a
scene between Spock and the Romulan Commander, where I noticed she adjusts
her panties as she shifts position. Never quite realized just how cheeky
those Romulans were.
