ASTRO: SH2-212 aka NGC 1624
Described in the NGC catalog as 6 or 7 stars involved in nebulosity it
doesn't sound all that interesting. Visually it wasn't according to my viewing log. Still it makes for an interesting target. It is about 20 thousand lightyears away in the Perseus arm. One that survived the recent "cut". Stars are still forming in the outer parts of this nebula so come back in a few million years and see if a nice star cluster results. The stars we do see in it are about 4 million years old. 14" LX200R @ F/10, L=4x10' plus 1x30' in H alpha binned 2x2, RGB=2x10' binned 3x3, STL-11000XM, Paramount ME Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh". |

It reminds me of the Cocoon Nebula in Cygnus.

I saw the resemblance as well though it lacks the starfield and dark nebula.

Beautiful picture. I have an old and quite poor version of this one, I'll
have to reshoot it this fall. Stefan "Rick Johnson" schrieb im Newsbeitrag . com... Described in the NGC catalog as 6 or 7 stars involved in nebulosity it doesn't sound all that interesting. Yep, this one dates back to last fall. It and several more Sharpless
objects all had nasty gradients from a missing port cap I hadn't realized had fallen off. I put them in one directory and forgot about them. I now can process some of them so you will be seeing them as time permits. Fortunately, I kept the related darks and flats. Rick Stefan Lilge wrote: Beautiful picture.
