How are 'standard' Celestron eyepieces?
Im looking for a reasonable eyepiece in the 15mm range. On astromart Ive
seen a lot of people selling entire ranges of Celestron ep, i.e 4,6,9,15. I believe these are ones that are included with a number of scopes. Are they crap? |

Are they crap? Hi: No. They are garden variety Chinese plossls, no better nor worse than those sold by Meade (as the current "Super Plossls"), Orion, or anybody else. Good, for the money, decently sharp, but not as good as the TeleVue plossls--which cost about twice as much or more. You're seeing full sets because people are taking advantage of the Celestron "eyepiece deal" and selling what they don't need. I won't be able to justify purchase of a $600 Nagler "holy hand grenade" to my wife for awhile, since my telescope is a $159 (with coupon) Costco Nexstar 114GT. -- Pat O'Connell [note munged EMail address] Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but vandals... |

Hi: That's "China" last time I checked. :-) Seriously, thanks, Pat. Last I'd been told they were from the mainland via Synta. Well, it wouldn't be the first time that something's point of origin has been mismarked (accidentally or deliberately--think of Usa, Japan), but the eyepieces (and the Barlow and filters) are marked "Taiwan" in white letters, and the people on that island draw a distinction. Anyway, they're decent eyepieces. -- Pat O'Connell [note munged EMail address] Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but vandals... |

been mismarked (accidentally or deliberately--think of Usa, Japan) you know thats an urban myth right? while there is a town in japan called usa, it was so named well before the war and goods have to be marked with the country of manufacture anyways, not just the town name. dave |
