Default Lunar Corona Observation

I went out to take a quick look at the sky and was greeted by a beautiful lunar corona (not to be confused with a much larger 22 degree halo) surrounding the evening's full moon - a bit like the concentric rings of a traditional archery target.

A sketch along with a page full of notes noting sizes, colors, and intensities of the various rings were produced. A utility pole was conveniently located for blocking the full moon - permitting a more relaxed and detailed observation of the beautiful corona. A second sketch provided a "close-up" view of the moon's ocean and seas. If I get ambitious I'll be able to transform the observations into a painting . . .

Sometimes the unaided eye is better than any telescope, binocular, or camera. This was one of those times.

Sketcher,
To sketch is to see.
