The orbital plane of the Earth should be represented in the graphic accompanying the image by a line equidistant to orbital North and South using the circle of illumination as a gauge and the direction of the Earth's motion around the Sun. This would help explain why the North and South poles traverse the fully illuminated face of the Earth in sequence and from one Equinox to the other. |

The EPIC satellite will capture the eclipse in its full glory and an occasion to calibrate whether the satellite is exactly co-moving with the Earth around the Sun and directly on the orbital plane.As the North pole moves parallel with the orbital plane (with its Southern partner out of view) it is an occasion to determine the predicted positions of the longitude lines to the orbital plane and the observed position.

I should leave this open for the guys who love to 'run-the'numbers' but they are shy or uninteresting.All values are approximate as the principles are presently more important.
The frame of reference for all this is the fully illuminated face of the Earth with the changing positions of the North and South poles to the circle of illumination. These changes run parallel to the orbital plane with the greatest distance occurring on the Solstices where the North pole was 1,634 miles South of the circle of illumination (orbital North) on the June Solstice when adjudged from the orbital plane and 6,961 miles North of the Circle of illumination (orbital South) from the same perspective. A tangential line running through the North pole on the June Solstice defines the orbital plane orbital East and orbital West with the center of the orbital plane 2,663.5 miles below this line. Just to confirm this, it is Not a line tangential to the Arctic circle, it is a line that runs parallel with the orbital plane by which to gauge the changing distance over the year from the North/South pole to the orbital plane from a central point defined by the fully illuminated face of the Earth using orbital North and South on that plane. The moon will cross the fully illuminated face of the Earth in a specific way due to the orbital position of the Earth for that date using the orbital plane as a reference. The EPIC satellite will not only capture in images the reasons why the eclipse crosses specific geographical areas but also the complex interaction between daily rotational and orbital components of the Earth. Rather that the old astrological 'first point of Aries',it is a definite frame of reference to define the changing relationship between daily rotation and orbital traits. |

The current EPIC image shows the Antarctic Continent just coming into view as the forward motion of the Earth turns the planet slowly with the North and South poles turning parallel to the orbital plane. What does it take to present a graphic demonstrating two parallel lines representing the nature of the motion of the poles across the fully illuminated face of the Earth from an orbital standpoint. The North pole constantly retains a distance of 1625.54 miles below that fully illuminated face at all times from March to September Equinox when it then becomes the turn of the South pole. The distance between the North pole and the circle illumination North to South is 1625.54 miles which is maintained constantly throughout an orbit but the distance East to West shrinks from the North pole to the circle of illumination after the June Solstice as it does for the South pole. On the September Equinox the poles exist on the circle of illumination hence the distance is zero. |
