You over simplify by making only two groups. The best teachers are always
learning. That's the crux of the problem with this board (NG)---the core
sees themselves as sages to the unwashed masses. BS. It's a HOBBY. There
are people that know as much about bowling as some of these clowns do about
astronomy. So you have FS-128 and an SBIG camera. So what? Big damn deal.
If a post is beneath you, SKIP IT. Most of these clowns just cannot resit
because they think what they have to say matters. Do you really think I
would spend $1500 on a recommendation from this nest of egos?

Are you accusing all of us of being human? Surely not? :-)

Of course not. All they have to offer is a few thousand man-years of
experience with scopes you constantly ask about.

Except they can't seem to express anything civilly which pretty much
nullifies the value of those few thousand years...

really Rich, how much of the typical post is really information and how much
is blather? The information is around 10% and the rest, not even opinion
which would be of value, is egotisical blather parroted back from the books
everyone reads on their breaks at Computerland or Frank's Auto Repair.
Seriously, this NG has very little value. It's not a forum of free
discussion. It's not welcoming to the mid level hobbyist---they love the
naiive newbie and they love stroking each other off with silly "astro
photographs"---but if someone actually challenges a thought, all hell breaks
loose and the perverbial wheels come off. It's actually amusing to me how
many of the regulars can't just skip a post they think to be beneath them.
They simply must comment! Look at the dozens of drivel posts you put on
this very thread!

Let's do it! Now, which one of us is going to process the applications
for membership in the new group? We'll need these because it's not like
we can just let people create a free email on Yahoo or somewhere and
then let them in. We'll need people to send us their names, address,
maybe a picture, etc. Why don't we have people email their applications
to me and then you can verify these people are who they say they are.
Sound good?

Skip,

You will also want a DNA sample, issue a card, and register with
homeland security. This way when we are out with the scope and the
"authorities" come to investigate we can say " back off I am a
registered amateur astronomer and we will report anything suspicious"

People who do not join must wear tracking collars so we know where
they are and when they use laser pointers or foreign optics.

If every one sends me money, I will go to DC and pay to have this
turned into law. In the mean time all telescope and accessories must be
registered and have a tax sticker issued by the SAA new order.

This 'ill teach 'em

Have a nice night

And you'll need to send Herb $50 too for 50 posts.

You've been free to ask the same questions time after time, after

Troll -

Mij Adyaw wrote:

I would like to respectfully ask why so many of you tolerate this newsgroup.
It seems to be full of trolls and other types of folks that get their
jollies by antagonizing other members of the group. There are some very
knowledgeable members of this group and I have learned much from being a
member of this group. Year after year the problems in this newsgroup worsen.
That is just the nature of Usenet and it will only get worse with time.
Have you ever considered moving this forum (essentially all of the good
folks in this forum) to another location such as groups on Astromart or some
other location where folks will have to post using their real names and real
email addresses? It seems that this solution would eliminate all of the
trolls and other annoyances and we could have astronomy discussions without
all of the flame wars. It seems that if a new home could be found, the group
could be vacated rather quickly.

-mij
