Default Russian Clipper

This vehicle will land on a runway like the shuttle, right? I wish NASA
would go this route--a scaled-down version of the shuttle--rather than
go backwards to Apollo.

Is there a website with diagrams and descriptions of the Clipper?

Thanks!

If by a "scaled-down shuttle" you mean a similar reusable
winged spacecraft- not a literal scaled-down model, then
there's nothing preventing it from being used as part of a
mission to the Moon or Mars. But it makes more sense to
use such a vehicle simply for transiting from the Earth to
LEO and back, with a more suitable vehicle to travel from
LEO to the Moon or Mars. You don't really need wings to
go there.

Time to go beyond low Earth orbit again...

Seems like we've been doing that all along, just not with
people onboard...

The sense or intuition that I had in re the Klipper was that it was being
"developed" on speculation, hoping to get funding from NASA or ESA or
even Russia. The main effort to date has been in the aerodynamic
modeling. That plus a wooden mock up.

I think that it would be a great idea for Energia and Aerospatiale to
team up on this as the Ariane 5 would seem to be made to order in terms
of payload capability.

It was. Ariane 5 was specifically designed for Hermes.

Come to think of it, Energia would be nuts to design a ship that was not
compatible with the Ariane 5.
