...Confirm that. AP is also reporting this, as well as CNN.

Multiple locations reporting a story is *not* a confirmation of
anything other than the fact that they are either a) copying from each
other and/or b) all working from the same press release.

Reporting today is about currency[1], not accuracy.

D.

[1] That can be read as either "being current" or "money". Either
reading is correct.

Whatever the cause, the shock and loss deserves all our sympathies.

Why? It's only Russians. Accidents like this are a godsend when you
consider the surplus population. It's a necessary thinning of the herd.

Why don't you volunteer to be thinned out, for the good of all mankind?

Perhaps terrorism is involved, but indirectly. Russia certainly now (post S11) has a response plan for dealing with a potentially dangerous hijacked aircraft. This plan would involve using the military to shoot it down.

Now given that there _was_ a message from an aircraft saying that it had been hijacked is it possible that somebody in the Russian military chain of command took it on themselves to find and eliminate the aircraft? Is it possible that two aircraft were hit because two units were looking for them, and they didn't check that it was the right aircraft before opening fire?

Any other country in the world, and the idea would be dismissed as pure
craziness....in Russia, it's a working hypothesis; particularly the part
about shooting down the wrong aircraft- that's got Russia written all
over it.....

Well, when it comes to shooting down the wrong airliner they have stiff
competition.

Nah, clavius site shows he's too good a writer to be spared. I
especially like his coverage of the camera/photography issues.
