I hope he gets well soon - I very much want to hear his take on this
story:

http://www.boingboing.net/2005/12/20/stalins_army_of_mana.html

"Recently-uncovered documents in Moscow apparently reveal that Josef
Stalin hoped to crossbreed humans and apes to create superwarriors. In
1926, animal breeding scientist Illya Ivanov was sent to Africa with
$200,000 to begin the project while a laboratory was established in
Georgia."

After seeing some pictures of Leonid Brezhnev with that uni-brow and
long glum face, I'm not sure Stalin didn't succeed beyond his wildest
dreams.

The Cold War is behind us now. Let's all kiss and make up.

On Tue, 20 Dec 2005 12:21:20 -0600, in a place far, far away, Herb

phosphor on my monitor glow in such a way as to indicate that:

He's only be interested if they were cute, personality-filled apes...

Here's an oldie but a goodie from The Onion:

Super Monkey Collider Loses Funding

"Congress voted Monday to cut federal funding for the superconducting
monkey collider, a controversial experiment which has cost taxpayers an
estimated $7.6 billion a year since its creation in 1983.

The collider, which was to be built within a 45-mile-long circular
tunnel, would accelerate monkeys to near-light speeds before smashing
them together. Scientists insist the collider is an important step
toward understanding the universe, because no one can yet say for
certain what kind of noises monkeys would make if collided at those
high speeds............"

"Tarzanski: Commissar Of The Apes."
After that Lysenko grain breeding work, this sounds almost doable...and
wasn't Che a Communist Guerilla?
