Default 2 questions on Huygens probe

1. What stops the probe from tumbling before the first chute opens?
2. Why is the heat shield made of sections that are all slightly different
shades?

1. Aerodynamics. The shape of the shield automatically stabilized the
spacecraft.

2. You are probably viewing artwork. I have never seen photos of the TPS
for real. My guess is that the artist shade the tiles for visual effect.
