A location along longitude does NOT rotate to face the Sun every 24
hours.

Our ancestors ASSUMED constant axial rotation and corrected it by the
Equation of Time hence there is no external reference for axial
rotation through 360 degrees ,neither against the Sun nor the stars.

It may eventually dawn on somebody that the Equation of Time format
based on axial rotation/terrestial longitudes precedes the
calendrically based sidereal system or rather the sidereal format is
based on the 24 hour/360 degrees equivalency.

Big topic, small people ( at least so far).

Small topic, but apparently too big for someone who apparently never
sees daylight, let alone the stars.
Constant axial rotation is a _fact_, and can be proven without recourse
to external observation.
The equation of time has nothing to do with constant axial rotation, but
the _fact_ that the Earth's axis is inclined to the plane of its orbit
and that orbit is an ellipse. So the _solar_ day, but not the sidereal
day, varies throughout the year.
How on Earth can the sidereal system be "calendrically based"? My Local
Sidereal Time is about 05:31 (thanks to
http://www.jgiesen.de/astro/astroJS/siderealClock/ for that), but
that's only useful for setting up a telescope. And as for a 24 hour/360
degree equivalency...

Actually, he could very well have been one of my science teachers. He's
slightly more excitable than I remember them to have been though.
Generally they didn't start swearing and insulting you unless you
dropped something.

Now you are probably too courteous to figure out that this is contrary
to Kipper lotion as the Earth travels slower when it's relatively
faster on two orbits than it's inclination and Thuban was the true
pole star of degrees of circumpolar distance. You dumbass! ;-)

But you would say that you sickening fool because you've swallowed all
of Nelson's lies about gravy. That's probably why Selsey is always
getting flooded. But YOU can't grasp the basic fact that it's on the
edge of the world so the rain clouds have nowhere else to go until the
rest of the planet circumvents the equatorial tilt and starts going back
the other way while everyone is sleeping. You crazy astronomy man. You
probably eat children!

Ta dah... I can talk his language too - aka bollox.

It's actually quite good fun.

Is a standard troll like a standard metre?
Tried his best and couldnee muster
A theory of rotation that wasnee flawed
So they put him back in the bottom drawer
And waited a couple of hundred years
Then dragged him out to express his fears
That his original troll had been half mast
But he'd been soundly beaten from first to last
For marks he's not worth that 3 out of ten
He was more like a flatfish when we'd finished with him.

With apologies to trolls, pedants and poets everywhere

Astronomers you ain't,that much is certain.Even if you hijack the title
and others do not notice you are little more than cataloguers.

An astronomer has the final say on what works and what does'nt,the very
fact is that my astronomical heritage is in the hands of a bunch of
mathematical freaks who could'nt make an observation to save their
lives let alone distinguish between perceived motions from Earth and
actual motions.

Powerful telescopes supply more data but they are worthless in the
hands of theorists and it has been that way for centuries.Passing on
Newton's empirical illness to future generations assures that astronomy
will eventually die in all but name for the theorists have left you
nothing left to observe.

Good enough for people who have no standards , no sense of the scale
and majesty of the cosmos and no way to pass that on to future
generations.

Poor Grammar :

Hey, ****emonger, the mote in his eye, perhaps. Why the capital "G" in
"Grammar"?

* for the theorists have left you nothing left to observe : Wow, tautology, that's cool !

IMNSHO not an example of tautology. Unnecessary repeated word != tautology.

3/10 for Grammar,

It's that capital "G" again.

+1 for the tautology, which I rather enjoyed, 0/10 for making any sense whatsoever !

So you're giving him a lowly 3 for his poor grammar, but adding 1 point back
again for his "tautology"? Whatb sirection are you going? Do you know?

I needn't say more.

Within this context, no apology is needed to poets, it is much better than
any of Gerald's nonsense.
