Are you trying to convince us to shut down the oilsands or what?

At the expense of thousands of square miles of coastal cities. And at

higher CO2 levels, most important crops are less productive.

But if you pathetic greenies really get what you want, there WILL be no U.S. It'll be a socialist world government.

We will not be able to "adapt" to the changes, unless "we" constitutes a total population much smaller than today's.

Then this would be as good a time as any to put an end to those long cross-country drives and those airline trips to Hawaii. Or to move close enough to work so as to be able to walk instead of drive.

As for a smaller population, ask Owl Bore about that.

That is not a coincidence. The stable climate has allowed humanity to continue to farm and its population to increase to over 7 billion (that's a problem, but another discussion).

Climate change will kick the Earth out of this unusual equilibrium and return it to the wild temperature swings it used to experience (global average temperature varying as much as 20 degrees F, sometimes within a few decades), This instability would lead to crop failures and make reliable intensive agriculture unreliable, thus making a population anywhere near its current level virtually impossible. We will not be able to "adapt" to the changes, unless "we" constitutes a total population much smaller than today's.

Sadly, for the near 7 billion existing slaves, robotics will soon make many of the existing slave race largely redundant. Our sociopathic "tribal chiefs" can then enjoy even greater comfort with even less need for fine control.

The thin veneer of, so-called, civilisation is about to have the carpet whipped out from under its feet. The human race is about to be massively downsized. Ironically(?) the robots are not our real enemy. (At least not yet!)

The real enemy is the insatiable desire of our "tribal chiefs" to maximise their inequality compared with the slaving masses they rule. They still control us all from birth to death by veiled threat and token reward. Attend for pointless work, to make wealth for the elite. Or face loss of earnings, comfort, security and shelter when not actively working as a slave.

Nothing has changed in the countless millennia since a lazy sociopath assumed control of their tribe in the Africa of plenty. Power was assumed by force entirely for personal gain. Aided and abetted by rewarding just a few thugs with extra rations stolen from the tribe's food stores. And (usually) an improved choice of sexual partners beyond the thug's normal status.

Those who would not comply ran away to find shelter and comfort outside the influence of the evil sociopath. Until, of course, a new sociopath rose to take control of that new group entirely for personal gain.

Eventually, almost the entire globe was covered in those desperately trying to escape local injustice and lifelong slavery to a merciless thug. Now there is nowhere left to run to. Your life is controlled from birth to death as surely as if your were a puppet. Glove or string is quite irrelevant. You're hanged or screwed anyway.

Slavery is universal. Only the illusion of freedom entertains the toiling masses when they are briefly allowed to rest. We now crave slavery because we have been made to believe that it offers our only choice. Cooperation is a dirty word. Slavery, to any tyrant, avoids the need to think or worry about where your next meal is coming from. Even if that meal comes in a perpetually poisoned chalice.

Aliens do indeed rule the earth: Strange thugs who run countless slaves entirely for personal gain. A true cooperative would share the profits equally.. There would be no drive to constantly over-exploit the earth. Nor its climate, resources or people.

You didn't describe a "healthy, happy, humane society"... you described a society in which the productive (such as plumbers) are taxed to support the (willfully) unproductive (such as starving artists.)

The plumber, whose insurance premiums are going up due to 0bamacare, will be less able to reach HIS potential, ie, maybe he won't be able to afford flying lessons, or maybe his kids won't be able to take piano lessons.

If a starving artist can't make it by selling his art, then maybe he is in the wrong profession, or he should pursue art as a hobby in his spare time. That way, only his OWN time will be wasted, not the plumber's.

No, I discussed a society in which everybody could be productive
without having to worry about survival.

You did not.

A starving artist, by definition, is not productive as an artist and might not survive, but he can be productive as a waiter. Prior to 0bamacare he likely would have had a group policy through his "day job," but perhaps not anymore.
