Aurora In Nova Scotia
While driving home at approximately 6:50 PM Atlantic Time (5:50
Eastern) I noticed a huge ray of greenish light extending to the SE from the NNW. I thught that it might be a cloud reflecting moonlight, but the shifting shape and shimmering confirmeed an aurora was active. By 7:30, there was an auroral crown just South of the zenith, and a deep red aurora extending from the NW to the eastern horizon. there were rays, beams, and shimmering sheets and detached glowing clouds! Quite simply the best aurora that I have ever experienced, and certainly the most colourful! There was a second peak at around 8:30 with an auroral crown and the red prominent in the east. to the south there was a green auroral "blob". By 9:15, the show had ended, with a slight glow to the north, and a blob to the south. By 9:45, all glows had faded. Wow! Cheers, - Craig |
