Visual? Dobsonian, the larger the better. Imaging? Refractor.

Might be a little simplistic. For visual, many might prefer or benefit
from something with a computerized mount. Imaging? It is often best to
have the largest possible aperture, as this reduces total exposure
time.

Personally, I'd swap your recommendations (of course, we don't have a
lot of detail about the OP's goals). Most people will need to travel a
bit to take good advantage of visual observing, so something
comfortably portable makes sense- a largish refractor or a medium SCT.
Imaging is easier to conduct under less than perfect skies, but the
ability to take short exposures greatly simplifies things. So for
that, a large aperture reflector of some kind (on a decent mount).

Of course, the correct answer to the question is that there is no
"correct" answer.

My own advice is, before buying something that might not be appropriate for your needs, that you attend a new-moon public star party in or near your area and 'test-drive' as many different kinds of telescopes as you can. Talk with their owners and ask a lot of questions. Become knowledgeable.

If you live near a large city it will be easy to find such a group, and a bit harder if you don't. There are amateur observers everywhere, so the chances are good that they are near you, too.

Where in the world do you live? Perhaps someone here knows of such a thing in your area...

There is no best telescope only some that are better in some ways than others, worse in some ways than others.

"Deep sky" can include large clusters nebulae all the way to faint galaxies and planetary nebulae.

A larger scope is usually better, up to the point that it becomes too difficult to set up or too expensive to afford.

A good starter scope might be the Orion Starblast, or the smaller Space Probe reflector. These will remain useful even if you decide to get a larger scope later. A 6-inch to 10-inch Dobsonian should be manageable even for a beginner. An 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain can be a good all-around scope too.

Can you provide more background on your experience and situation?

The best telescope for deep sky is the one that gets used every chance you get.
Everything else is just theory and personal speculation.

Can you lift the thing yourself?
Can you carry it unaided to the observing site in your back yard?
Can you set it up unaided?
Do you have a suitable site away from local street lights right outside your own back door?

If the answer is "no" to any of the above you are placing hurdles, or even land mines, between yourself and the sky.
The world is awash with unused telescopes.
If you stacked their tubes end to end they'd reach the ISS!

The best deep sky instruments are a quality pair of 8x40 binoculars and a nice warm coat.
Add a hat and gloves if necessary for your climate.
Oh, and something on which to rest your elbows.
A handy car will do very nicely to rest on provided you don't have to drive it.
A suitable fence or wall would do too but may not be as comfortable.

You are now fully equipped for a lifetime's pleasure provided you do not suffer from local light pollution.
Everything else is just icing on the cake.

One can only -detect- some deep sky objects in binos, but even 3-inch scope will show detail, not to mention split doubles, and show some detail in planets. Also, even small binos shake. My cheapo table-top Dob does not shake and neither did my first telescope.

The one that you will use.

It depends on a lot of things we don't know about you. Do you live in a
3rd floor walk-up in the city or a sprawling ranch in the country? Is
your budget somewhat limited or is the sky the limit? Imaging or viewing
through the eyepiece?

Typically for deepsky, aperture wins. But for imaging, stability and
tracking are more important and time might substitute for diameter.

Yer all wrong. The correct answer is the Hubble.

Try the Hubble telescope.
Anything smaller/cheaper sucks.
