Craters on Mercury are oases for water ice, organic molecules

The presence of water on Mercury had been suspected since as early as 1992, due to Earth-based radar reflection experiments. These measurements were ambiguous enough that more direct observation was desirable. Enter MESSENGER: the MErcury Surface Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging probe, which has been orbiting Mercury since 2011. MESSENGER carries a variety of instruments for measuring surface features and magnetic fields, along with more ordinary cameras for imaging.

The radar reflection study found that some of Mercury's ice is in the form of frozen ponds. Other ice—still detectable through scattered light and neutron emission—is covered in dark, highly nonreflective material up to 20cm deep. The researchers determined this dark layer contains far less hydrogen than should be present if it were a water-saturated material. Complex organic—meaning carbon-containing—molecules are both dark in color and relatively common components of asteroids, meteorites, and comets.

Ice ponds? Water ice ??? Does Mercury have an atmosphere? Its only 30
million miles from the Sun I think Mafia NASA is fudging here. Why
not find out the reason its magnetic field is only 1% of Earth's,for
it has same type core? Well it does rotate very slow. Why is its orbit
so elongated? How did it get so close to the Sun? Is its orbit getting
smaller? Mercury looks very old with layers of lava all hammered out
by comets, and meteorites. It has cracks that are almost 3 miles high.
I'm surprised Mafia NASA does not claim that these are "Water Cracks"
Sam keep in mind its almost as hot there as Venus (800F) Not
water, but m guess is melted lead and tin. However with no atmosphere
its cold on the side not facing the Sun for about 30 days Water big
Mafia NASA lie They lie much to often, and are losing their conning of
the tax payers Fact is people have lost there faith in our space
program, when it got known about those $25,000,000 toilets, and Chinese
used 10 cent Depends, and depends were so much lighter, and more
dependable. Get the picture yet? TreBert

I wish you would have read the article instead of blabbering
on about Mafia and toilets like you usually do. Maybe it's time
you got the picture, Herb!

Mercury has no global worming problem at all, and its pants are full of ice.
