Seek source of Dan Goldin quote,"I'm White House's man at NASA"
I'm seeking the source, accurate text, and context of a quotation attributed to Dan Goldin during the Clinton-Gore years, to the effect that "I'm not NASA's man at the White House, I'm the White House's man at NASA." Please help. The relevance to current concerns over political influence over NASA should be evident. Thanks! |

As pointed out elsewhere, Goldin was appointed by Bush Sr. in 1992. If any credence is given to Cunningham's opinion piece, it might be more accurate to say Goldin was an apolitical servant of whoever was in the White House. Which is presumably what is expected of someone holding that position. |

and the significance of this was -- what? If I may... Since Goldin was appointed by Bush Sr. and if he allegedly made the statement while serving under Clinton, it means that his statement probably indicates he considered himself an apolitical servant of the current administration. Presumably then, any thesis using the Goldin quote as evidence would then need to argue that George Deutsch was acting in an apolitical capacity. Otherwise the situations don't appear analogous. Not impossible, but clearly a stretch for some of us to swallow. So you're probably barking up the wrong tree. There are probably a lot better examples to show past political influence on NASA PR. But please please think carefully before you write an article that uses the amoral excuse "they got away with, why can't we?" "jonathan" wrote in message ... "Jim Oberg" wrote in message ...
