The Miami herald estimates some 7500 jobs lost by not
extending the shuttle, but some 1700 gained
by the commercial launch initiatives.

Just tossing out some numbers, if the Moon only costs
NASA $2 billion more a year to save some 6000 jobs.
That's over $3 million per year/per job.

It may help if such an expensive program furthered pure research
or the arts in some way, where society benefited in many
other, but less direct ways. But the Moon does neither.
Fifty year old technology repackaged, with little inspirational
appeal this time around.

I mean....could you stand in front of a crown in Detroit, or L.A
or Cleveland, and shamelessly support that kind of
platinum-plated safari?

On the bright side, the Dow was up some 25% last year
and looking strong. Rising employment shouldn't lag
too much farther behind. Imho.

As I and others have said, if those in charge had granted the money while
shuttle was flying to do something much more ambitious, then the current
situation would not have occurred. When you do look at the cost though, its
all a pretty small amount of taxpayers money, compared to military aims.

Still, you makes yer choices...

Those crooks in WDC will eat or otherwise squander those profits
before creating or protecting one non-government (truly civilian) job.

My home of Miami practices the kind of politics that make
D.C. politicians appear to be shining examples of morality
integrity and selflessness, in comparison of course.

[grin]
Yeah. Though most people forget when their yapping on about the *evil
corporations*
that the US Government is the Largest Corporation there is....
and they have all the guns and other tools of force including printing
their own money
that can make all those Miami guys stand at attention.
And when they have that kind of power,
they can all afford the friendly human skin shells to put over their lizard
bodies...
ala the show "V".
When Government can't gets what it wants voluntarily, what does it do?
It pulls out it's guns. It uses overwhelming force.
And it does so on it's own people with the help of the sycophantic Press.

They want you? Heck all they have to do is setup the Press coverage
with all the accusations that are convenient to their spin... go in and Kill
you
so that everyone seeing it on TV says: "well then, they deserved it" and go
away feeling justified
because they believe the lies told.
Nice place huh?

It's still all about state and federal government job and considerable
benefit security. They'll basically do whatever it takes for holding
onto and/or extending those public funded jobs and benefits, short of
telling us the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

You obviously believe what you can see for yourself. Does that policy
of yours also apply for the planet Venus?

The general public has to believe in their government, because it's
like their religion, and they really have nothing else.
