Default Apply shuttle ET foam in a vacuum.

Interesting idea.

Is it the solution?

Yes. Launch the shuttle first and *then* apply the foam.

Give it basalt composite fibers.

Foam and highly insulative basalt composite fibers (possibly a layer or
two of basalt micro-balloons to boot) is just the ticket to ride, and I
believe it's well proven as well as being dirt cheap at perhaps
representing less overall mass per R-factor. In fact, the entire tank
could have been a 100% composite of basalt and perhaps a touch of
silica if need be.

I think it's simply AWESOME how many more experts on this subject are here
on SAA than there are in all of NASA or aeronautical/space engineering.

Simply STUNNING!

SAA never fails to impress...

ACKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jan Owen,
The only sorry aspect of our NASA that's impressive are the LLPOF
factors of how they've gotten so many nice and undeserving folks quite
dead. At least I'm impressed.

BTW; what would you think about a structural tank insulation worth of
R-1024/m
