Look for space to be mentioned on the 28 Feb 2017 joint session of Congress and for it to point to space based power and making humanity a multi-planet species as critical issues for the Trump administration.

You can look for it but don't hold your breath because Trump has a lot
more things to worry about than that right now.

Expect to hear about cabinet appointments, Supreme Court Justices, and
immigration and trade.

Good lord, another MookJacker!

Mezei, if you want to discuss paranoid delusions of Butthurt
Snowflakes, please start a new thread for it.

There are two ways to deal with such a situation: remain under the radar
and hope the govt continues on same course because it is busy elsewhere.
Or get involved to make sure the government doesn't hurt you.

It isn't clear yet whether Trump exists in his own island doing what he
wants, or whether the Republican party exerts any control over him.

In the past, Boeing, ATK etc worked wonders by lobbying
congressman/senators. ATK remained in the subsidy loop after Shuttle
went away etc.

If Congressman/Senators are now out of the decision loop because Trump
makes all decisions, then Musk may have the winning formula by having
free access to the president by being on some committee.

Pithy response, yet fundamentally wrong in every detail.

The Trump administration has restored the national space council;

http://spacenews.com/babin-backs-pen...space-council/

giving the nation a high level strategic direction again.

President Trump has met with Musk and Hewson, both companies have discussed human presence on Mars in the near term;

http://spacenews.com/elon-musk-meets-with-donald-trump/

http://www.space.com/34234-spacex-ma...e-numbers.html

http://www.popsci.com/lockheed-marti...mars-base-camp

Trump has called for a joint session of Congress on February 28 this year to discuss important national needs. This is the same tactic used by Eisenhower when he formed NASA, by Kennedy when he announced sending men to the moon and returning them safely to the Earth, by Reagan when he announced the Strategic Defense Initiative.

So, there is a likelihood that Trump will announce a long term strategic vision for the future, with short term practical benefit to the nation. This includes;

(1) NASA support of commercialisation of chemical rocket technologies that support
(a) peaceful ballistic terrestrial transport of packages and people,
(b) peaceful transport to orbit and back,
(i) orbital hotels,
(ii) orbital communications,
(iii) orbiting power systems,
(iv) orbital sensing,
(c) cislunar orperations,
(d) inner solar system operations,
(2) NASA research to develop
(a) outer solar system manned presence by 2030
(b) near interstellar probes by 2030
(c) survey of planetary systems out to 10,000 light years by 2030
(3) Long term development of;
(a) commercialisation of outer solar system resources, by 2050
(b) manned presence to nearby stars, by 2050
(c) probes to stars beyond 50 light years, by 2050
(d) commercilisation of nearby stars by 2100,
(e) manned presence to stars beyond 50 light years by 2100

Not quite as you portray it. Trump has met with group of business men
who include Musk. Musk didn't meet privately with trump to tell him to
fund space big time.

Musk is likely far more interested in protecting his electric car
business which might be "forgotten" by a pro oil presidency intent on
"drill drill baby" with subsidies going to oil/coal instead of electric
cars.

It remains to be seen what the budget will look like. If Trump wants to
pave highways, congress/senate may tell him to cut elsewhere to fund his
spending. So unless space is part of his spending plans, it may be where
he agrees to cuts to fund other things.

That and the Trump Administration has made it clear that they want to
cut taxes on businesses in order to make the US corporate tax code more
attractive in order to bring jobs back to the US (that's the theory
anyway). The downside is that the Administration will need to pay for
it somehow. One of the first things Trump did when he got into office
was to freeze all government hiring with the exception of the military.
NASA was not an exception and has had its hiring frozen.

This indicates to me that NASA will not immune from the budget cuts
which are quite to come. So, even if Trump were to give a Kennedy like
speech on space, his Administration is quite unlikely to back that up
with the large proposed budget increases required to make the contents
of that speech become a reality.

In other words, Trump's space policy will likely be more of the same for
NASA in terms of overall budget. The best we can hope for is that his
Administration kills SLS, stopping the giant sucking sound, and replaces
it with more "commercial" initiatives within NASA. IMHO, a commercial
HLV program coupled with a cryogenic fuel depot and reusable upper stage
(e.g. ACES based) wouldn't be bad way to go and ought to be doable with
a re-purposed SLS budget.

Musk is likely to be turfed off that advisory council in short order.

SpaceX and Tesla are fighting Trump's immigration ban.

Trump doesn't take kindly to non-adulation.

You really are clueless, aren't you? Have you looked at his cabinet
picks? He's not going to find a lot of 'adulation' there.
