Retaining Binoc Lens Caps?
I'd like to not lose the lens caps that go on my binocs. I see some people
poke a hole through the caps, and use a thread to tie the caps to the binocs. That's OK, but one ends up with something that resembles a wind chime. Anyone got a better solution? -- Wayne T. Have an adult sew some pockets on your pants or your shirt. Put the
lens caps in the pockets when you are using them. Replace them on the binoculars when you are finished. |

LOL. ;-) But seriously, i just take off the lens caps at the start of=20 an observing session and keep them in the binocular's case=20 until the end of the session. When i'm hiking with smaller=20 non-astro binoculars i leave the lens caps in my car and wear=20 the binos around my neck. Or just put the caps in your pocket. -Florian |

Each cap ends up in a different pocket somehow along with keys, pencils, napkins, film canisters, a loupe, etc. Actually, my biggest concern is the cap falling off on the ground when I'm carrying it around my neck. There are times when I don't like to carry it in the case. In fact, one pair has a case that's so torn up and so big I more or less keep it out of the case. However, I want some protection for the lenses in case I bang into something. Too bad they don't make screw on or clamp on caps. -- Wayne T. However, I want some protection for the lenses in case I bang into=20
something. Too bad they don't make screw on or clamp on caps. Hi Wayne,=20 I do understand what you mean. However when i have my binoculars out=20 i want them to be ready to use instantly. Sometimes i'll see a bright=20 meteor and want to check if it left a smoke trail for example. If i=20 had to remove 4 lens caps each time i'd miss it. Also when hiking=20 sometimes you have just a second or two to view a bird or animal.=20 Again, if i had to remove lens caps i might miss it. So whenever i'm=20 using binoculars the caps are off and the binoculars are around my=20 neck. I suppose one exception might be if i was hiking in a light=20 rain i might put on the eyepiece caps to keep water off the eyepieces. -Florian |

What if I wear kilts?
Well for crying out loud, take them off before using a needle and thread! |

That was a close call. Clear Skies, Uncle Bob |
