Default Celestron Nexstar 114computerised scope

Has anybody had any experience with the above scope. Is it any good or is
it considered rubbish?

Thanks in advance

Ricky,

Overall it is a great scope. I've had mine for about a year now, and have
used it to view the moon, Saturn, Mars, some double stars, and others.
Based on what I've read about "first" scopes, not saying this would be your
first, but it is mine, I sometimes think that I should have gone with a
refactor scope instead of the reflector, just so that I'd have better
contrast, but then again, I haven't had any experence with a feflector scope
either. So the grass may not be greener on the other side.

Aligning the scope or anyscope for that matter wasn't that easy for me,
because I didn't learn the location of the stars first. It's getting easier
the more I use it, however.

Although I haven't had a chance to use it yet because I won't have it until
Wednesday, I bought it for 160 US dollars. Costco had a special of $199 and
a $40 coupon. I checked out the site cited below and I guess this was a
pretty good deal. This is a 114GT Celestron.

That's a great price. Almost makes me sick. I paid $465 for mine less than
a year ago.

The price has come down a lot, I'm guessing because they have a newer model
out, the 130GPS priced around $500 or less. It will save you a lot of time
aligning your scope. But, you really can't beat the price of the 114GT now.
Less than $200! That's a steal!
