Doies anyone know if there is any requiremenmt to notify adjoining
proprietors that floodlighting, security lights or advertising lighting is
to be put up, in order that a neighbour might object?

Hi Ian,

I believe it depends on your local council. If you look at this document

http://www.cpre.org.uk/resources/pub...ution/light-po
llution-and-astronomy.pdf

you will find that 39% have some sort of planning policy on light pollution
but 35% do not even have any plans to introduce one. My local council
(Allerdale in Cumbria) has quite a good one, as mentioned in the above
document, but enforcement is another matter :-(

No. There is no such requirement.

Though I do suggest you have a word with your adjoining proprietors and let
them know what you intend doing. Chances are pretty good that they won't
give a stuff, especially if its security lighting but best to check just in
case.

Normally it's only illuminated advertising that needs planning consent. But
don't take my word for it - phone your council planning department and have
a chat with them.

Chef!
