Earth's magnetic field is failing. There is the South Atlantic Anomaly
where a large portion has completely collapsed.
If a switch could be turned off on the magnetic field it would take
15,000 to collapse. At it's current rate it will collapse in 1500 years.
As less of the sun's energy is deflected, the earth warms, not to
mention radiation that kills satellites and jet planes electronics and
ultraviolet that causes cancer. The indication is that it is getting
ready to flip like it has many times in the earth's life. So what will
that cause if the north magnetic pole is at the south pole???

Increased compass sales combined with elves learning how to ride
penguins? ;-)

This is old news.

Of course, there is the little problem that the earth's magnetic field helps
to shield the earth from radiation that's unfriendly to life on earth.

Quote from above:
At the present rate, Earth's magnetic field could be gone
within a few centuries, exposing the planet to the relentless
blast of charged particles from space with unpredictable
consequences for the atmosphere and life.

I read unpredictable as: Doh!

Data collected via solidified lave from prehistoric volcanic eruptions,
when it flips, secondary poles emerge:

The fact that mass extinctions don't line up with the time of the pole
flips gives hope that major chaos doesn't ensue.
Meanwhile, up on the Sun, the sunspots are apparently about to return:

Finally, a explanation for the eleven-year sunspot cycle.

"In this case, researchers combined data from GONG and SOHO..."

The GONGSOHO? Is Chuck Barris in charge?
