Does the flight have some sort of curse on it?

Between that and the shooting of the congresswoman whose husband is
commanding the last planned mission, you would almost think so.
That must have been a pretty severe bicycle crash to break his hip; I
doubt if the doctors are going to okay him for flight in time for the
Discovery mission, particularly since he was planned to be the chief EVA
astronaut.

Does this make Tim Kopra the "Ken Mattingly" for STS-133?

Possibly. Kopra could still fly if 133 is delayed for other reasons and
he gets medically re-qualified in the meantime.

Don't ever mention Apollo-13 near the Shuttle; the thing may get ideas.

A broken hip doesn't sound like something that would fully heal very fast.

Ah, so you did get the reference to which I was referring That he
would end-up in one of the "sims" to help get Shuttle folks back
alive.

The glass is neither half-empty nor half-full. The glass has a leak.
The real question is "Can it be patched?"
