Default A recent secret launch of a rocket off the coast of California?

It was caught on tape and the government says it
wasn't something a foreign power did.

Star wars still or just a test of submarine based
missiles to see if they work?

Perhaps it was just the tiny video I saw, but if it were an airliner
shouldn't there have been two or more contrails? Save perhaps I
suppose for something like an MD-80 with both engines in the tail.

Its contrail though should look like it was appearing out of the ocean
in the West and then going overhead to the East shouldn't it?

You wouldn't see them at that distance, with the contrail appearing
very low just coming over the horizon, meaning the plane is very far
away from the viewer.

Further, if it were a rocket, that close to sunset we should see some
affects on the trail... changing brightness and color as the rocket
ascends from twilight into more direct sunshine. But what we see is
uniform in color, only expanding with time from the origin point,
exactly what you'd expect of an airliner cruising at altitude toward
and high above the viewer.

This was just a weird combination of exceptional atmospheric clarity
and people not used to sunset being an hour earlier.

Save perhaps I
suppose for something like an MD-80 with both engines in the tail.

A US Airways 757, Honolulu to Phoenix flew through the area at the
time of the sighting.

Take a look at this link:

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2010/...ff-california/

What is peculiar is the video at frame 00:22 You lay a straight edge along the
contrail and there appears to be a definite break in the angle, like what
you'd expect from a missile launch, but....

NORAD and FAA say nothing unusual was tracked. First respondent to the article
claims a jet contrail for a jet coming in from the Pacific, claims
to have witnessed it first hand while flying off the coast. Also no pilots
reported seeing anything unusual at the time....

After studying this video, I recant my previous post, I can't tell anything
from this video. Jet contrail theory is just as good as any...

No, the Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) didn't take effect until *today*.

Which it does. The wider part of the trail is farther away from the
viewer, as the contrail expanded with time. The narrow tip of the
trail is actually closest to the viewer, passing 30,000 feet above and
ahead of the camera.

Not only that, but ascending smoke trails from rockets get all
raggedy-looking as the rocket gains altitude, through winds of varying
speeds and directions. Conclusion: contrail at altitude.
