Worthless. The consortium has agreed to a number of things (including tearing down a few perfectly GOOD, working telescopes already on Mauna Kea), but the savages (natives) and enviro-kooks are still wailing about this. Apparently, their (the primitive's) god is an idiot who opposes learning about space. Honestly, it might be better to just say f--- Hawaii, it's natives and idiot liberal population of dope-addicts (plus, more people on welfare in Hawaii by percentage of population) than the the other state. A mother of 2 gets $60,000 a year, untaxed, in welfare benefits. You'd have to earn $85,000 to net that much as a worker. Maybe it's time to move major astronomy projects solely to Chile or elsewhere?

Could it be that the proceeds from renting mountain tops never [ever] trickles down to the impoverished masses? Or [far more likely] never reaches the local snake oil salesmen. Well, somebody has to tell the people what to think and Trump is too distant. Probably tweeting gob****e on a private golf course somewhere.

Isn't welfare a response to a government's inability to provide adequate employment at survivable wages for all? The sight of starving kids on the side of every road might eventually impact on political majorities. It's not as if the US National Debt can't afford a similar sum to a small fraction of the "unlisted" economy.

Are you talking about 1461?
He loves being talked about.
His religion is vampyrism.
No drop of attention too small.
He has survived for centuries.
Or does it just seem like it? ;-)

In 1461 even Razzmatazz would have been burnt at the stake easy!

Tee-hee. ))

Ironic that such a vile and utterly corrupt superstition should dare to set the moral compass for over a billion snake oil consumers.
[There's another climate joke in there somewhere!]
"Physician heal thyself" springs to mind here. ;-)
Hypocrisy or Hippocratic oath?
Can either be easily confused with celibacy?
Are there any recognized RC saints martyred to the church's countless pedophiles?
The church believes her when some backward girl claims she sees a statue weeping.
But ask them to believe she's been serial, gang raped by her pervert priests? Never!!

When did leftists get it into their heads that the world owes them a living? It doesn't. That's why people MOVE. Unless they are comfy in Hawaii, at tax-payer expense.

Do you suppose, for one moment, that the world lacks the cash to support all the people of the world in quite decent comfort?

It is no longer about politics but about human survival.
We are on the precipice of a post-human workforce with a massive overburden of available workers.

If success is about maintaining the largest number of human beings on this planet then we have riches beyond the dreams of avarice.

Inequality breeds resentment. Inequality breeds a massive imbalance of power over our individual futures and individual safety of our life support systems.

If your sociopathic politics were to transferred to a post-AI/robotics world then the obvious result is mass unemployment.
Job-less-ness on a scale which defies all logic or imagination.

Each new generation must find tasks for the numbers of human hands and minds available.
Put simply: The work available consumes the available workforce.
Most jobs today are almost completely pointless.
Built in obsolescence helps to keep the factories and services chugging along.
Each generation must provide enough active consumers of the goods and services provided by their fellow workers.
An imbalance causes mayhem. 1930s, Bank Crashes, The Chinese manufacturing miracle as jobs at home were exported overnight.

Now completely remove the consumers from your brave new world.
Wages for the few remaining jobs are competed for by your globally mobile mass of long-term unemployed.

If wages go down due to over-demand for work then consumption must inevitably go down.
If consumption goes down far enough then even the robots begin to be become unemployed.
Do the robots join the global mass of exhausted unemployed seeking non-existent work?

Where do you suppose the funds for this global freedom of movement to seek work will come from?
Will national borders be suddenly relaxed to allow starving families to seek non-existent work?

You sociopathic viewpoint is equally shared by those in power.
Are you a lobbyist for their ever increasing sociopathy?
Sociopaths have ruled the world since the beginning of human life.
No doubt it drove the early, great human migrations.

All it takes is the greed of an individual to take more than their fair share without engaging basic, human, moral standards:

Tinpot tribal chiefs, warlords, robber barons, royalty competing for greater power and even more obscene wealth.
Even the billionaires of commerce foaming at the mouth at underlings as they build their unnatural monopolies over the newly unemployed opposition.

The countless directors who exported generations of jobs, skills, patents and invaluable home grown technology and skills directly to Asia.
All this in exchange for the latest Audi, a few shares and a golden handshake?
That's sociopathy art work.

When a local factory closes so does literally everything else.
Everybody who depended on the local factory, however indirectly, suffers some loss:

Soon, the only struggling businesses remaining in the high street are charity/thrift shops.
The car showroom and independent car workshops have gone.
The clothes shops.
The stationers and bookshop.
The shoe shop.
The chemist/Pharmacy.
The estate agents.
The carpet showroom.
The cycle sales and workshop has gone.
The motorcycle showroom.
The electronics and TV sales is no more.
The several hairdressers are now down to one.
The shop windows are all blind to the misery.
The jobbing builders, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, flooring specialist are all gone.
No need for vans and tools and materials so the formerly vast general builders supplies has gone after desperately cutting jobs and prices.
The skilled and experienced staff went first.

Now the travelling salespersons have no more sales here.
So they have no need of a café or bar.
Nor the petrol pumps.
Nor the heating oil supplier.
The gas appliance sales and repairer closed up shop.
There were plenty women and girls who used to clean house to keep their heads above water.
Now they have had to wrap their kids up warm rather than use the heating.
The three banks are now down to one.
The two insurance company offices are long closed.
The former three, thriving supermarkets are now down to one with only pre-teenage staff running the show.
The local schools all closed to become an efficient centralized unit miles away by bus.

All this happened in our small town.

Of course they can all move to where the jobs are plentiful...

Let's copy 1461's serial ramblings and expand the theme:

"Moving" assumes that one can sell one's home.
Preferably with a nice little profit to show how much effort and expense went into improving it.

What happens when houses sit unsold for years?
House sales drive modernization and provide a constant demand for local services.
Just like science, economics is tightly bound to all other intricately connected factors.

When the psychopaths in "THE MARKETS" engineer a bank crash, **** flies literally everywhere.
Suddenly you can't sell your home on the other side of the world!
So you have no need of a new lawnmower, plumber or painter.
If their services aren't needed then nor are the local shops and services to which EVERYONE else is intimately connected.
Even if they never shopped there, their wives or hairdressers or barman once did.

When the paint has faded on all the For Sale signs homes end up on forced auctions.
The owner couldn't just walk away because the banks have pretended to lend them the full cost of their home.
When a house sits for a while on the market it quickly starts looking shabby.
A vicious circle sets in where total gridlock is the norm.
Run down properties produce run down areas.
Now nobody can sell because of the several eyesores next door and the next.

Now somebody thinks they can win the lottery by buying up all the unsold properties dirt cheap[ly] at auction.
Sadly that leaves no funds for improvements.
So they do most of the work [badly] themselves and spend literally years making an awful mess inside and out.
So yet again all the now unemployed, local trades-persons gain nothing from the house sales at auction.

Each small economic unit must closely match all the others or there is chaos.
You psychopathic friends offering high frequency, worthless promises have ruined the lives of countless billions around the globe.
But walked away Scot free.
The empty homes may eventually be rented out to the "lower classes" or the detested unemployed you so despise.
If you lose YOUR job then god help you if you want to sell your own home!

Psychopaths are not normally complete fools.
They always rig their evil system in their own favour.
They call on loyalty, nationalism, race, class and religion to enjoy the fruits of their vile scams.
Because they have no morals, they have no need of loyalty to anyone but themselves.
They can always find fall guys, or hit men, just like you, to carry out their nefarious activities.
They can always afford the best defense team and the best lobbyists themselves.
You will be discarded with all the back stabbing, knife wielding skills of a mafia boss, dictator or fund manager.

All this has nothing to do with politics.
It has EVERYTHING to do with morals.
Or rather, the complete lack of them.

Now go and check in the mirror.
Can you see your own reflection?
Or that of a psychopathic, populist hero?

Grow up. We're a rat colony. A rat colony if fed will vastly expand, then there is a huge die-off. No reason humans won't suffer the same fate.
