And then they go and kill him off! And mutilate his body! I don't
know if there's such a thing as "passive-aggressive homophobia", but
jeez...

Having read the book and seen the original movie, I appreciated that a
definitely *non-supermodel* type was used. I mean, she looked like Billie
Jean King. It was a minor change from the book, and a good change. Something
like that could have worked well. The character could very well have been a
dyke, but it wasn't necessary to the plot- then or now- so it was
unnecessary.

What's wrong with simply making a good movie? Why is it necessary to add
layers of "messages"? If I want that crap, I'd check out some old Soviet
stuff from Internet Archive.

...Actually, what ****ed me off more - no pun intended - wasn't the

the future so that we could destroy it. I honestly wonder what
Crichton had to say when he read that script.

Well, the original did not need a remake. Nevertheless, the remake
was done well enough and managed to incorporate some more modern
context. Now if they really wanted to hit some hot buttons and
generate a lot of buzz, they could have had Andromeda be an anti gay
virus developed by an ultra right wing religious organization of the
future...

They're just rocks. Mars rocks. Right now they're worth billions, but
in the near future they'll be a dime a dozen in the giveaway box at
garage sales.

Where's the Mars salt? (Earth has lots of salt, whereas Mars has
hardly any)
