Time to grow up Sam,forget 'broad daylight' and focus in on the dynamics as Venus passes out the Earth as it swings in front of the central Sun -

It takes only the reference of another planet like Jupiter to fix the orbital plane of the Earth and the other planets thereby using the almost vertical horizon as a giant 'sunshade' for appreciating the dynamics behind this present astronomical event and it happens so often ! -

Venus would be traveling in the same direction as the apparent motion of the background stars as it travels in front of the Sun hence apparent retrograde motion,soon it will venture out to its furthest distance and then swing in behind the Sun and in the opposite direction of the background stars.

Broad daylight indeed !,a few simple graphics and a basic interpretation and people so that the only light they pay attention to is that brilliant light of recognition that we and Venus travel in a common circuit around the Sun.
