Tight fisted people.....
I decided to attempt to make some small eyepiece filters (can't work, very
little cash) so off i went to a Model making shop here in sunny Spalding. the boss was very helpfull(?). After i explained what i wanted, he very helpfully offered me coloured film type sheets about 25cm X 2metres - per colour!! very nice i said but i only need some small pieces. Like these he said, showing me a small card with 20 odd different colours about 6cm X 3cm. perfect i says, how much? Oh no he says, theyre not for sale but are only samples. They are perfect for me. Sorry he said, you will have to buy the single packs. What do i do with the remainimg 90% of unused sheet? Sell them to your friends. So, each sheet cost's 3.99 and i would need probably 5 different colours. That equates to 1/2 a weeks shopping for me. I think i will go in again and have a good look on the sample pack and see if i can find the supplier. Isn't it nice to have such caring, sharing people in this world????? Sorry about the rant and stuff. (I was thinking of buying a box of Roses sweets and using the wrappers but not enough colours) Martin A |

I. (I was thinking of buying a box of Roses sweets and using the wrappers but not enough colours) Martin A He was probably doing you a favour by not letting you have the samples. I've tried some odd things as filters. Including an old pair of red/blue (cyan/magenta?) 3D TV glasses. The optical quality was always crap. Cellophane in particular might look nice but it is made by stretching & squashing between giant rollers. Not sure what they offered you in the model shop. Wing covering film possibly. Clearkote? Heat Shrink? (It's been decades since I dabbled) It may be as bad as Roses cellophane wrappers. If that's what it was then chase up a contact member of the local model flying club and ask them for some offcuts to experiment with. The local library usually has lists of clubs and societies. Or did last time I needed to know. Chris.B |

Now you may like, or not care about, this but it will affect the image when you try to combine filters. regards Pete -- .................................................. ......................... .. never trust a man who, when left alone ...... Incidentally, the other shop had about 4 sample sets, which is why i accused him of being tight. I never expect something for nothing but was surprised by his decision.. Martin A If you'd only mentioned the four sample books we would have started a serious protest campaign. Probably involoving our MEP's! g Let us know how this new material works out. Chris.B |
