Default SCT User 4th Annual Imaging Competition

HI Gang:

Below is the kickoff message for the 2005 SCT-User Imaging Competition.
Nice prizes and a lot of fun. Go to the contest home page at the url
below for more info. I believe this is our 4th year, and I think this
one is gonna be better than ever.

================================================== ==============

On behalf of the judging team, I am pleased to announce that the 2005
SCT-Users 2005 Imaging Contest is underway. Please check out our new
website, created by Roth Ritter, at:

http://www.rothritter.com/contest/2005/

A copy of the contest rules and entry form has been uploaded to the
SCT-User's files section.

Much, much more to come about this year's judging team, the sponsors,
prizes etc., so stay tuned and get those pictures and images sent to
us. Let's
make this year's contest the best ever!

Clear skies,
Kevin Dixon

Are you trying to entice me into switching back to an SCT?

HI Steve:

Nope. To an SCT, an MCT, an MNT or an SNT...all CATs are welcome this
year as before! ;-)

Hi Rod,

Are images from Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrains accepted?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott:

You'll probably want to email the judges on that one. My opinion? If
the scope can be considered a catadioptric, yes. If it incorporates
something like a corrector plate. I don't think a classical cassegrain
or an R/C with the simple addition of a field flattener would qualify
as a CAT. Meade's new "R/C" scopes, though, certainly would.

Peace,
Rod

Seems to me the SCT imaging competition ought to be for SCTs only.

With others for MCTs, MNTs, SNTs, Newts, and refractors.

Why discriminate rather than classify and open up the competition?

Don't you already break it down to film, CCD, webcam, and DSLR?

Just some random thoughts.

Hi:

And good thoughts they are. But I think there's a bit of a
misunderstanding. We refer to it as the "SCT Imaging Competition,"
but...it's _really_ the "SCT User Mailing List Imaging Competition."
And the list, from the beginning, has, despite its name, been for users
of _all_ catadioptric scopes. There's _is_ probably less discussion of
"the other CATs" on the list these days than there used to be. Probably
because there's now a Yahoogroup for every scope type (and every other
astro-subject) you can possibly imagine. ;-)

Hmmmm, so you mean that if you own a SCT but aren't a member of that list,
you can't participate? ;-)

How about if you do belong to the list, but image with a Newtonian and a
refractor. Can you still particpate? VBG

Hi:

Yep, exactly. But it don't cost nothing to join. And you can always
leave later if you find our company not to your liking. ;-)
