A little known dark nebula in Monoceros?

This 8 x 8 arc min dark nebulae was discovered by accident on the edge
of a series of images taken of the variable star R MON in 2005. This
DSS image shows the object quite nicely.

I trust that it's not too much like the rather larger black cloud
described by Hoyle half a century ago as being observed (with the
200-inch), also near Orion G.
