If all the mass of the universe were once contained in one singularity, time would be infinitely dilated, and so no events could ever occur, not even a Big Bang. Dilated relative to *what*, itself? Or to us 'out here'? Remember, the 'relative' in relativity is all about seeing from alternate referance frames. This most basic precept of relativity is what many (if not most) professing relativists don't seem to 'get'. They can recite "the math" till the cows come home, but don't seem to have the knack of mentally transposing to alternate frames and experientially 'seeing from' the alternate frame. oc |
