Has very much the look of your 2415 images! So you are imaging from
your home rather than traveling as you used to? CCD does have that advantage. I gave up traveling when arthritis made it too painful. Then retired to a dark site. At least I can work from inside now. No more feeding the mosquitoes or suffering frostbite. Why the red filter? I've never had the patience (or clear skies) to put that much time into one image. I've got a lot of your old Barnard dark nebula on my hard drive. You running the 8" on the same mount you used for the 14.5. Trying to recall what it was. Blue head is all I can recall. Your FOV works out, if I did the math right at about 46.5x31 minutes. A bit wider than my 33.7x22.5. Still if I ever get off my Arp kick I'll have to give these smaller ones a try. Though with only 4 subs for lum data they might not stand out so well! Keep those images coming. Martin,
I see you are still going for the elusive stuff (no wonder as you probably have imaged all "standard" object at least five times). Great shooting, I like to see "new" objects. 71x10 minutes is quite impressive. Thanks Rick, John, Stefan.
Rick also asked about the times (length) of the exposure ... I guess Rick has betters skies, I have better weather g. I can image almost every night. Right now I'm up to 14 subs per workday weeknight. Puts me in the sack a bit after 11:00PM. My background counts on the *best* moonless nights are a bit over 3000; on a decent near full moon night 8-9000. Ten minute subs with a red filter. What I have found through trial and error (lots of error), is that the more subs I take, the better the image ... I still have a problem with my drive corrector momentarily losing power (compromising that sub), lots of air traffic resulting in multiple (usually) subs with trails, etc. So I'll post another from the same time period as B 173 ... shot in the same part of the sky with lots of moon ... -- Marty Martin C Germano email: Web - film: http://martingermano.com/Film/index.html ccd: http://martingermano.com "Stefan Lilge" wrote in message ...
