Mag 5.5

Such novae are quite common, actually. About one every decade or so.

Nice to get one rising.

-- Lord Androcles, Zeroth Earl of Medway

Just caught it in the 10x50. It's easy to find and is currently (1:27 UTC) about mag +5.0.

In the range of naked eye visible, then, sans light pollution. In an earlier

time

every sailor under canvas would have seen it on night watch. Keep looking

up.

Clear skies.

I probably could have seen it unaided last pm were it not for the bright Moon and a layer of thin cirrus clouds. I was going to try it after the Moon set but was rewarded with a squall line off the Gulf. Still cloudy and rainy in central Florida but it has all day to try to clear out.
