Not really sure why half mile size makes any difference at all.
Especially as a 1/2 mile asteroid is quite small in compared to many
others.

You are in no more danger if you are not hit by a locomotive, as you are
from not being hit by a sparrow.

And if you are hit,.... it's the speed at which you are hit that really is
what you have to worry about.

Yes, because a half mile asteroid hitting your skull at 50km/hr is very
different to 1,000 km/hr.

Well DUH. at that point it doesn't matter if it's a half mile or half a
foot.
So again, why is the size the only relevant feature ?

BTW many objects in space are generally traveling more in the multi-Km per
second range. which even makes gun bullets slow in comparison.

Yes, it is large enough to be serious.
But it is missing Earth, by quite a ways.
If you would like reading a novel about similar,
I'd suggest:

Hagar's trailer park.

I'd think that most of the sane reasonable people who read here,
are very glad it is not going to hit anywhere on earth.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_JO25
"The peanut-shape asteroid measures some 1.3 kilometer long"
That would do some serious messing up of the planet.
Just to settle a grudge you have going on??!!

http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essent...017-how-to-see
" We found 2014 JO25 is a contact binary asteroid (two space rocks
that were originally separate bodies) and each segment is about 2,100 feet
(640 meters) and 2,198 feet (670 meters), for a total of about 0.8 miles
(1.3 km) long.
We also found the asteroid completes a rotation in about 3.5 hours.
Preliminary estimates had indicated the asteroid’s size would be about 60
times
that of the asteroid that penetrated the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia
in
February, 2013. NASA said: ----
2014 JO25 is classified as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid by the Minor
Planet Center. ---
it is in fact traveling though space at a speed of 75,072 mph (120,816
km/h)! "

https://sputniknews.com/science/2017...id-earth-miss/
"Still, if an asteroid that size did hit Earth, it would be catastrophic. If
it
crashed into the sea, it would produce tsunamis capable of wiping out
coastal cities. If it hit land, the results would be comparable to 10,000
megatons of TNT striking the Earth."

Be nice if NASA could put a camera on this rock.It could get a free ride on its way out of the solar system.Might have enough gravity to hold camera.Half mile stone could be worth a few bucks in energy on inertia . Trebert
