Astrophysical Journal (IOP) website problems
I have found that the IOP Publishing website for The Astrophysical
Journal (ApJ) http://iopscience.iop.org/0004-637X has serious problems with its "Find article given volume & page number" facility. For example, if I go to the website, enter "528" in the volume field, enter "328" in the "Article or page" field, and click "Find article", I get an error page saying No Content Found No content found for: Journal: The Astrophysical Journal, Volume: 523, Issue: Issue, Page: 328 However, that paper *does* indeed exist on the website at the url http://iopscience.iop.org/0004-637X/523/1/328 In fact, repeating the search after visiting the paper's page now gives the same error page with the additional message at the bottom Your last 10 viewed Correlated Errors in Hipparcos Parallaxes toward the Pleiades and the Hyades Vijay K. Narayanan and Andrew Gould 1999 ApJ 523 328 This behavior is not unique to this paper, or even to this journal: I have found the same result trying to look up other references in both ApJ and other IOP Journals. For example, try finding the paper http://iopscience.iop.org/0264-9381/26/13/135002/ Fujita & Hikida Classical and Quantum Gravity 26, 135002 on the (also-published-by-IOP) Classical and Quantum Gravity website. I have thus far received no response to my E-mail of August 28, 2014 about this, sent to . If anyone from IOP is reading this newsgroup, please bring this issue to the attention of your website team! Questions: 1. Have others seen similar behavior at ApJ and/or other IOP journals? 2. If so, did you complain to IOP, and if so, did you get any response? ciao, -- -- "Jonathan Thornburg [remove -animal to reply]" Dept of Astronomy & IUCSS, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA "There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. My guess is that practically no-one uses these online journal sites. Most people probably use arXiv for newer papers and ADS for older papers. Certainly the websites of ADS and arXiv are more sensible than those of most journals. ADS is not perfect, but whenever I've pointed out errors, not only was the email acknowledged within a few days at most, but the problem was also fixed. Google Scholar Citations made some waves a few years ago by finding more citations than ADS in many cases. However, there are more incorrect citations. Moreover, emails reporting obvious mistakes (like counting citations for the wrong paper) go unanswered. It looked promising, especially since the website was quite quick, but it appears that Google no longer has any interest in a quality product here. |

I have seen this same behavior intermittently on NED, when I enter an
object name it replies nothing found, then when I enter the coordinates it finds that object with that same name, I did complain about that a couple years ago but I think it confused them and I did not pursue it. Don't have an example, sorry. |
